Abstract: The Child in Focus: Learning and Teaching in Early Childhood Education addresses theory into practice in teaching and learning, curriculum and pedagogy and professional practice in early childhood (birth to age 8). Importantly, the text also discusses wider social and cultural contexts and issues. The contributors are all experienced teacher educators who drew on their own areas of specialization in early childhood and primary school education, with chapters that include literacy, mathematics, science, and the arts. The text will be used by students in Holmesglen’s Bachelor of Early Childhood Teaching, and in similar courses throughout Australia.
